Today we’re looking at this sunny figure of Rozen Maiden’s master musician, Kanaria! Settle in with your favorite epic violin music playlist, because this virtuosa is here to win the Alice Game!
Series Summary: Battle Royale Dolls
Six dolls were once created by Rozen, the legendary doll maker. He imbued them with a heart, which is called a Rosa Mystica. They are all perfect in their own way, but each doll represents only one virtue of the perfect maiden. (✿•́˵◡•̀)
Suigintou is the first doll, the one whose love alone was enough to animate her body. ❤
Kanaria is the second, bright and confident (and for once, the star of something).
Suiseiseki is the third, a dramatic tsundere whose only wish is to live happily with her twin sister Souseiseki.

Souseiseki is number four, the gallant dandy-like doll. Kind, chivalrous and earnest. 🤴
Shinku is the fifth doll, the star of the show, the red rose of the garden, the queen of elegance. 🌹
And Hinaichigo is the sixth doll, sweet and innocent. The baby of the sisters. 🍓
Along with life, these dolls were given a purpose: to fight and become the perfect girl Rozen envisioned: Alice. However, they need to do so through a battle royale called the Alice Game. The winner takes the Rosa Mysticas of the defeated, bringing them closer and closer to Rozen’s ideal of female perfection. ଘ(人◠ᗜ◠)
The anime series started airing back in 2004, and for four seasons we got to watch the dolls’ battle for supremacy, as well as the calm between each clash. Like anything Alice-themed, there’s tons of frills, lace, and tea parties set to a soundtrack of violins and harpsichord. ☕ The Rozen Maiden anime series is cute and fun, with lots of action and lots of drama. Worth a watch if you like the Lolita aesthetic!
The musician doll
One thing I didn’t like about the anime back then was how my bebe Kanaria was made into little more than a comedic plot device. She’s bright, confident, and musically talented. In battle, her skills have awesome potential, yet none of this was shown until the very end; Detective Kun-Kun got more airtime than Kanaria! (;¬_¬) So yeah, while the anime is super cute and fun, if you’re here because you want to have more of this sunny doll, maybe stick to the manga.
But thank goodness for figure maker Flare, who came to right all the wrongs of the past. They put Kanaria on the pedestal she deserves, and she’s ready to enter into a contract with a master worthy of her summery personality!
Which, mind you, shouldn’t be mistaken for weakness; just like a bright and uplifting musical piece, everything about Kanaria is carefully sculpted to convey the composer’s feelings. In the case of this Rozen Maiden, she’s cheerful AND strong *by design*, the ideal of female brightness as defined by Rozen. ✧٩( ๑╹ ꇴ╹)۶🎻
Sunflower Style
When it comes to ruffles, Kanaria’s outfit wins: ruffles on her sleeve, on the hem of her dress, on her bloomers, and her parasol — complete with two extra rows of extra ruffly ruffles.
Notice how detailed each loop of her ruffles is? They’re actually made to look like the petals of daisies and sunflowers. 🌻 Out of all the Rozen Maiden designs, Kanaria’s incorporates the most inconspicuous flowery elements. The others just resemble their respective flowers, such as Shinku’s dress being gathered in such a way that it drapes like a blooming rose. 🌹

The "lady of all beauty is a rose upon a thorn”
Kanaria hops and skips to the pizzicato of a perfect promenade in a beautiful garden. Her golden outfit momentarily becomes a bright sun for the yellow roses. ☀️
Famous French perfumer Francois Demachy once said that the flower that best represents a woman is the rose. Fair comparison — they’re beautiful, regal, delicate, unique, and a bit prickly sometimes. (๑′ᴗ‵๑) And Flare didn’t skimp on roses! The rosette motif abounds all over Kanaria’s design: on the base of the figure, drawn rosettes and stylized sculpted roses surround Kanaria’s tiny feet.
Then her parasol unfurls like a sunflower in a golden blast! ( ✺◡✺)
But life is not all roses when you are a doll created for a merciless battle royale. I love the subtle detail of thorns swirling behind the flowers. Yellow roses are typically used to convey feelings of true friendship, but the thorns dancing to her music here show the dark, prickly side that comes with pure feelings. They also hint at Kanaria’s power, which is nothing to be dismissed. With one dissonant chord Kanaria can disarm her opponent with excruciating pain!（｡≧◇≦）
Kinda like real life, if you think about it. The mere hint of styrofoam squeaks can send me to the hospital… (×_×;）
So many great battle opportunities were missed. I demand a remake. With a bunch of nostalgic series coming back, is it really too much to ask for? <__<
One thing I really like about this figure is how despite her outfit being nearly monochromatic with so much yellow everywhere, it doesn’t stab your eyes with stark hues. The colors are perfectly balanced so that it feels less like raw sun glare (✧_✧) and more like a gentle drop of sunshine. (´ ⌣`) With so much care and thought put into this figure it makes me wonder if Rozen came to the 3D world and got a job at Flare…

In fact, get all the PUPs and Nendos, because they’re simply the most adorable ones. The Rozen Maiden cast chibifies so perfectly we don’t need to put them in a battle royale to find Alice. They’re all perfect maidens already. ( •ॢ◡-ॢ )
The PUPs of twins Suiseiseki and Souseiseki are scheduled to be released at the end of July 2023, while the Nendoroids are already available brand new. The Nendoroid of Hina Ichigo is scheduled to be released at the end of August 2023, so pre-order her today!
