Aah... it’s getting hot in here (；´Д｀) Because the Flame Alchemist is coming to Solaris!
Colonel Mustang comes to life in this stunning, life-like figure by Sentinel. Lounging on a crimson seat, he assumes the role of Führer… of my heart. ( ෆຶдෆຶ)
I am in awe of the craftsmanship that went into this figure. It reminds me of Michelangelo’s Moses because of the same natural quality of the pose; he still seems to be mid-action, having just sat down on the leather armchair.
In the world of figures, as in the world of sculptures, we tend to favor action-packed images with acrobatic poses that exist only in a fraction of a second, and clothes and hair that catch the wind for dramatic effect. It takes a lot of work and a different kind of skill to pull off a rather mundane pose and still have the same powerful aura. Yet it is accomplished in this great release by Sentinel!
With honest eyes that show no hesitation, Roy contemplates his next move. Better yet, he anticipates it, because you can tell from the smile that he has already won. That gaze can kill ━(◯Δ◯∥)━ン and so can that strategically unbuttoned shirt that promises so much…
But what makes Colonel Mustang an infamous womanizer isn’t just his looks, because let’s be honest: he is kind of an ordinary face in the state military. It’s the combination of a brilliant mind, noble heart and irresistible charisma! Fit for a king, in my humble opinion.
In his right hand — and will you look at the Michelangelesque detail on that right hand (◕Д◕ ) — he holds his namesake chess piece, while the left hand ღ(◔ڼ◔ღ) holds his gloves. Both pieces can be removed from the model, as well as his coat.
Just as in a Renaissance painting of royals, the verdant flag of Amestris drapes over the back of the chair. Similarly, the regal character of the Hero of Ishval is implied in the quality of his uniform. How it fits him is reminiscent of those old paintings, where power and opulence were displayed through the fit of their clothes.
With the removal of a few items you can switch between the poses of a strategist about to deliver the coup de grâce or of a colonel relaxing at the end of another day at the job.
I personally prefer the pose with all the pieces because of the implied tension of the scene. He’s about to pounce and win this match. It will be the most unexpected counter. Gloves are off; Mustang is about to go all out to secure victory and the safety of his subordinates. The flame, often at the tip of his fingers, is now in his eyes… and you can feel it getting hotter.
