Welcome to the Solaris Blog! ヾ( ʚ̴̶̷ .̫ ʚ̴̶̷ )ノ”
Some series are easy to explain. Dorohedoro is not one of them.

At first glance, it sounds simple enough: a man named Caiman has his head transformed into a reptile’s by magic, lost his memories, and now wanders a grimy world called the Hole with his partner Nikaido while searching for the sorcerer responsible.

Except this is Dorohedoro, so that setup quickly spirals into sorcerers, devils, brutal fights, absurd comedy, mushroom magic, gyoza, body horror, and one of the strangest fantasy worlds manga has ever produced. The manga is a 23-volume series that ran from 2000 and built a passionate fanbase around its one-of-a-kind world and chaotic atmosphere.

And with Season 2 now airing, naturally there is no better time for Nikaido to get the figure treatment. After the first season originally dragged viewers into its charming little nightmare back in 2020, the return of Dorohedoro feels like a proper celebration of grime, violence, and questionable dinner choices.

Nikaido is Caiman’s friend, partner, and frequent voice of reason, though that voice still includes kicking people through walls. She runs the Hungry Bug restaurant, makes the gyoza Caiman loves, and brings a very specific warmth to a world that is otherwise covered in blood, smoke, and suspicious fluids.

Dorohedoro is packed with eccentric characters, but Nikaido has that rare mix of toughness, warmth, mystery, and style that makes her stand out even in a cast full of absolute weirdos. Which brings us to Medicos Entertainment’s Nikaido Devil Awakening 1/7 scale figure. This is not a soft, safe, bishoujo version of Nikaido. That would be missing the point.

Medicos based this figure on the cover illustration of Volume 16 of the manga, recreating Nikaido as her devil transformation begins to progress.

Mangaka Hayashida’s art has a texture that is very hard to translate into figure form. Dorohedoro does not have the clean, polished look of a typical anime series. It is heavy, dirty, strange, and full of rough edges. A figure like this has to capture not just the character design, but the weight of the world around her.

From the product photos and descriptions, Medicos seems to understand that. This Nikaido is not trying to look pristine. She is trying to look powerful, chaotic, and slightly cursed in the best possible way. Nikaido is not standing politely for the shelf. She has that wide, confident, almost feral presence that fits her perfectly. The devil elements combine with the Hungry Bug details to keep her grounded in who she is. That contrast is very Dorohedoro: monstrous transformation on one side, restaurant logo and gyoza on the other.

And yes, the gyoza details absolutely matter. The browned gyoza, the gyoza turner in her left hand, and the Hungry Bug logo on her arm are all standout details. It perfectly captures Dorohedoro’s mix of grotesque with the weirdly domestic. One minute someone is getting ripped apart, the next minute everyone is talking about food. This figure gets that joke without turning it into a joke figure.

The outfit also looks like one of the biggest strengths. It is painted with attention to the different materials, with good shading. The horns emerging through her blonde hair and the unusual clothing design help create visual contrast, drawing the viewer in.

Another nice touch is that the neck uses a ball joint, allowing the head angle to be adjusted. That might sound like a small feature, but for a figure this expressive, it could make a real difference. A slight change in head position can give you many more options for how you choose to display it.

What I like most about this release is that it does not sand Nikaido down into something cleaner or more conventionally pretty. It leans into the weirdness. The strong physique, the dangerous eyes, the horns, the rough costume textures, the food details, the chaotic pose, it all feels like a figure made for people who actually like Dorohedoro, not just people who want another attractive character on the shelf.

Dorohedoro figures have to pass a slightly different test than most anime figures. A good figure from this series should look like it came out of a back alley, a butcher shop, a punk show, and a supernatural kitchen all at the same time. This Nikaido does not just look cool. She looks like she belongs to that world.

For fans already watching Season 2, this feels like very good timing. For newcomers, it is also a pretty strong reminder of what makes the series special: ugly-beautiful worldbuilding, absurd character charm, food that somehow matters more than expected, and women who look like they could lovingly feed you dinner before breaking every bone in your body.
