Welcome to the Solaris Blog! ヾ( ʚ̴̶̷ .̫ ʚ̴̶̷ )ノ”
Kadokawa has been undergoing a revamp with its merchandising division and that includes its figure endeavors. Last year their figure brand CAworks announced that their products would be released under the Kadokawa Collection brand (KDcolle). In addition, a new line called the Kadokawa Plastic Model Series (Kadopla) was launched for poseable figures. The official KDcolle website has also been under construction, with the current site displaying a very big “Temporary Site” banner. My best guess is that there will be some kind of new branding and marketing strategy in the near future.

Majority of the offerings from KDcolle have been similar to their previous products. Mainly high quality, detailed scales that are fairly expensive and a bit above average market price. There have been a few figures that have greatly differed from this trend, to a surprising degree. Special High School DxD 15th anniversary figures were announced with price tags that will make you cry. They do have a pretty interesting gimmick however. They have an added fragrance, so you can make your nose happy when you smell your figures. In addition, the lamps have a spot for an LED, so they can be illuminated when displayed. The LED however is not included and would be an additional purchase on your own.

A figure that smells like perfume is an interesting idea but its definitely not for those on a budget. On the other end of the scale, there have also been some recently announced lower cost options. Just in time for Halloween, a figure pair of Rem and Ram was announced that is a pretty great option. You can get both as a set for less than the cost of most of their scales. The Halloween theme, costume designs and sculpt are all top notch and as scale figures you can expect significant detail and shading with the painting. They even included the LED to light up the pumpkin (set only, not included if Rem and Ram are purchased individually).
The direction Kadokawa is looking to go is a bit confusing. In the past they attempted to diversify their offerings with their KDcolle Light line up. With the KDcolle brand focusing on expensive scales, light was intended to be a mid tier, non-scale option, possibly to compete with FuRyu’s Tenitol line and Good Smile’s Pop Up Parade. This is basically the compromise between cheap, lower quality prize figures and those high end scale figures. With over a year passing since the last figure announcement from the line, nothing has really become of it.

It looks like Kadokawa hasn’t totally abandoned the idea of creating non-scale figures. Part of the recent KDcolle figure announcements is a special trio design with an interesting twist. To celebrate Sneaker Bunko’s 35th anniversary (Kadokawa’s light novel publishing imprint), Konosuba’s light novel illustrator, Kurone Mishima gave the girls an Idol makeover.
In their Light Novel Idol versions Megumin, Yunyun and Iris are featured in stylish dresses with a bunny motif. Each is given a hat with bunny ears and the dress includes a fluff ball tail!

They are listed as being around 16 to 17cm tall making them smaller than any scale counterparts. This is to be expected with non-scale figures and is in line with similar competitors. While they might not be the biggest, the sculpt and painting is on par with scale figures at a budget friendly price.

You can enjoy these high-quality idols in an easy-to-display size. The compact nature may not be such a bad thing if you already have some figures in your collection. It may be difficult to build a display around them, but they should be fairly easy to add to most collections.

The smaller size gives more options in where or how to display. Whether you only want one or all three, they look great and the unique costumes are a refreshing take.

The choice of coloring and pose for each character was also well thought out. The crimson demon Megumin got red accents which match her eyes and reflect her love for explosive magic. Her sharp pose perfectly matches Megumin's energetic and chuunibyou personality!

Yunyun’s assigned color is pink, which matches her cute and more ladylike image. Her bright smile and somewhat awkward hand signs is the perfect match to the eccentric Megumin. It reflects Yunyun’s nature of wanting to bond and fit in with Megumin but also being a bit embarrassed and shy.

Standing in the center with a very vibrant blue color scheme is Iris. The blue works incredibly well with her long blonde hair. Her confident posture and happy expression make her seem like a seasoned pro. As a princess, it only makes sense that she knows how to capture the hearts of her fans.
These explosively cute idols are estimated to be released in the middle of 2025 but Kadokawa has recently had to delay shipping of some of their other products. Hopefully they continue to bring us more affordable options at the quality we expect from an industry giant.
They are all eligible for an early bird discount so if you pre-order today you can receive 15% off making them truly a steal!
