DSmile’s Original Character Fang Li: An Elegant Encounter

Pre-Order Fang Li Now!

Welcome to the Solaris Blog! ヾ( ʚ̴̶̷ .̫ ʚ̴̶̷ )ノ”
It's a beautiful sunny day so you decide to head out for a walk. Making your way downtown, walking fast, faces pass. But one face catches your attention out of the corner of your eye. As you turn to get a better look, you are awestruck by the enchanting figure before you.
To immortalize this fateful encounter a gentle breeze blows by…
DSmile’s ability to tell a story and evoke a strong sense of emotion through their art is at a level few can match. Luckily, Otherwhere was able to capture this magic and reproduce it in figure form. If you're not familiar with DSmile we have a blog post highlighting their works you can check out.
DSmile's latest figure endeavor leads us to this 1/6 scale beauty in collaboration with manufacturer Otherwhere. Recently there have been a ton of new figure manufacturers popping up with varied results in terms of quality. Otherwhere has been around for a few years now and we have some released figures to reassure us. So far, online sentiment has been positive and they have shown their ability to make a good bishoujo product as well as spicy NSFW cast-off offerings. They may not have a big name for themselves yet, but they are slowly building a reputation to be proud of. As a lesser known manufacturer, some of their figures have gotten fairly pricey on the secondary market which adds another factor to consider when pre-ordering.
With the most recent figure of DSmile's original character Fang Li, Otherwhere once again shows what they can do.
Fang Li’s long, flowing hair cascades down her back, perfectly captures the motion of the moment and enhancing her delicate features. It is an image we have seen hundreds of times before in movies (or anime). As Fang Li stands there glancing over her shoulder in a gentle breeze, your heart skips a beat. The way Otherwhere sculpted her hair, wrapping around her body looks absolutely amazing. Really hope the finished product looks as good as the promotional images.
DSmile's ability to craft captivating characters should also not be understated. Everything about Fang Li’s hair is incredible. From bangs partially covering her eyes to her twintails and braids and simple hair ornament, Fang Li is a great representation of that innocent girl next door type.
Her wide expressive eyes and small facial features are staples of a good bishoujo figure. The light blush and cute expression adds a nice touch of moe.
Fang Li’s outfit and pose are simple yet perfect. The pink dress is nicely designed and the silver pattern adds visual interest. The dresses open back and frilly top provide an elegant look that is charming. The silver arm bands are not present in the original illustration but don’t feel out of place. If I had to guess, they might have been added to draw attention away from a seam or gap where the arms attach to the rest of the figure but that is purely speculation. From the promo photos no visible seam exists.
Hands behind her back, Fang Li attempts to prevent her skirt from fluttering a bit too much. It creates a bit of a vulnerable feel and also forces her chest to stick out.
The added flare of her dress is just the right amount. The sculpt is perfect. Enough is covered to keep things classy but at certain angles you grab a glimpse of some hidden treasure.
If you love Fang Li’s design or are a big DSmile fan looking to add a little art to your abode, there is a deluxe edition which comes with a tapestry in addition to the figure.
Pre-orders are currently open with an expected release date towards the middle of 2025. She is also available without the tapestry for a little cheaper.
Thank you for reading! Hope you enjoyed it!
