Today’s Early Bird special is the caped crusader himself, Batman! But something looks a little off…
That’s because this is Batman from Earth -22. And he is no ordinary Batman - he’s the Batman Who Laughs! σ(ｏдｏlll)
For those unfamiliar with the story, the Batman Who Laughs is the leader of the Dark Nights, a group of 7 Batmans who come from the Dark Multiverse.
While his origin remains mostly the same, the Batman Who Laughs takes a sinister turn when he murders the Joker and accidentally ingests a poison released from the dead villain.
The purpose of the Joker’s poison was to ensure his chaos and influence never left, even if he himself was gone. The result: the Batman Who Laughs. The remnants of the Joker’s appearance, combined with aspects of Batman’s original look creates such a terrifying image. (;╹⌓╹)
The sculpting and painting of the Batman Who Laughs is absolutely incredible and really brings out the scary details of the super villain.
The sculpting of his leather coat is incredibly detailed - even the smallest of notches or straps are carefully textured to show the age and quality of the material. The small tear in the fabric at the top of his head looks jagged and rough, creating an undeniably realistic look!
The painting of the Batman Who Laugh’s skin is also amazing. The pallid and purplish tone of his hands really enunciates his ghoulish and off putting appearance. （/｡＼)
Every detail, from the wrinkles and veins of his hands to his glossy and sharp nails, is carefully recreated and absolutely spellbinding!
The most striking part of the Batman Who Laughs is his face - it’s a hybrid of Batman and the Joker, with some additional horror elements thrown in for good measure.
The most obvious feature is his smile: with his lips pulled back in a large, warped grin and slathered with red lipstick, it’s the most obvious homage to the classic villain. Even the mild gray staining of his teeth adds another layer of repulsion to his image! | |д･)
Some elements of the Batsuit are also obvious, although heavily altered. Perhaps the most obvious are the ears of the suit, which are now attached via a spiked, metal visor that covers the Batman Who Laughs eyes. This visor really makes the supervillain look incredibly intimidating!
The Batman Who Laughs also has a cape of sorts, although its tattered appearance again only serves to build the horror of his presence. It almost looks like shadowy tendrils sneaking out from behind him.
