Welcome to the Solaris Blog! ヾ( ʚ̴̶̷ .̫ ʚ̴̶̷ )ノ”
There's an enduring charm associated with shy, reserved girls in anime and manga. Their subtle expressions, gentle demeanor, and the mystery that surrounds them often evoke feelings of endearment and curiosity. This archetype resonates with many, as it embodies a blend of innocence and depth, inviting viewers to explore the layers beneath the surface. One artist who masterfully brings this essence to life is Piromizu, who has a whole series of work dedicated to bring you a girl who will steal your heart.
Introducing Piromizu
Piromizu is a freelance illustrator renowned for depicting graceful and beautiful female characters. With a portfolio spanning across various creative endeavors, Piromizu’s work pops up in many different places. Piromizu has been involved in commercial endeavors and contributed the art to the adult visual novel series Amakano, but their original works have shined the brightest.
Piromizu's style is characterized by meticulous attention to detail, especially with hair and facial features. Their illustrations often depict women with a delicate and refined aesthetic, capturing subtle emotions and moments of introspection. This focus on nuanced expressions is combined with provocative outfits and poses which allows viewers to appreciate the quiet beauty and complexity they convey.
Shy Girls in Love
You can easily see Piromizu’s style in their original work, Hanikami, Kanojo wa Koi o Suru or more simply, Shy Girlfriend. Shy Girlfriend is an illustration collection born from the imagination of Piromizu and subsequently turned into a drama CD. The premise is simple, experiencing everyday life with one of the 10 unique heroines who find themselves in various flustered situations.
A few of the characters have been turned into figures already with plans announced for more. All of them make great additions to any bishoujo collection. First we have two figures of Tsuduri Amagasa.
Tsuduri exudes a blend of confidence and coyness. Her figure by Alice Glint and Thousand portrays her playfully adjusting her sleek black bikini, asking you to apply suntan lotion.
Her long lavender hair flows gracefully, and the overall image has a beachside ambiance.
Tsuduri may seem very bold at first glance but there are some subtle hints this is not the case. First her pose shows her leaning forward, somewhat protective. She is also not looking at the viewer head-on but rather from below and to the side.
The light blush on her cheeks also give a little reserved vibe. Plum’s take on Tsuduri has you spending Christmas together.
It is hard to call her a shy girlfriend on this one as her expression looks straight out of a hentai.
The bunny girl outfit gets combined with holiday spirit giving it some resemblance to Santa's outfit. The red color scheme, poof balls in the ears and thick black belts around the arm are an homage to Saint Nick.
Tsuduri’s pose is a bit closed off and guarded, still giving credence that she is a shy girlfriend.
It is a solid bishoujo figure that would also work well in a bunny girl collection. Having her seated is a bit unique compared to most bunny girl figures and could add diversity on the shelf.
DMM Factory agreed that the Shy Girlfriend girls are just too charming and wanted to get in on the action. Their original figure line, Maid Maison takes characters and puts a servant spin to them. They have announced plans to collaborate and bring us several of the Hanikami girls in maid attire. Hikage Chigami is the first figure to be offered and she is currently available for pre-order.
Piromizu blended the perfect amount of ecchi, bishoujo and bashfulness with this design. Her expression is adorable and they did a killer job with the blush. Hikage’s messy hair and long bangs add to the shy girl next door imagery.
Having Hikage carry a stack of books and the open side design for her maid dress was pretty genius. This takes an otherwise tame design and thrust it into bishoujo territory.
The cyan bows and ribbons are good highlights and add a dash of color differentiation. The heart name tag has Hikage's name written in hiragana and is a nice addition.
The detail throughout is well done and the paint work looks clean. Of the Hanikami figures released so far, this is my personal favorite.
Original Characters
Trying to sell a magazine requires the right cover image. You need to grab attention, set the tone for what’s inside and do it better than your competitors. A fair amount of original character figures are based on cover illustrations precisely because they are the best of the best. Competing for a cover spot from over 100 illustrations, Piromizu's Minatsu (NSFW) won out and subsequently was given a 3D form.
2020 was a rough year for everyone and many found themselves without work, including artists. Big doujinshi events like comic market were cancelled which created some opportunities for smaller exhibits to fill the void. HOT LIMIT 2020 was an adult only illustration festival held in Akihabara. Featuring an illustration collection using the theme of an erotic summer, it was surprisingly successful despite all of the COVID limitations and precautions. The art was collected into a book and Minatsu was the perfect representation of the theme to be the cover girl.
The figure version of Minatsu is a perfect bishoujo figure, and has a cast-off top. Bikini figures are generally very simple but Piromizu combined the perfect pose, facial expression and imagery to make you feel the beach breeze.
BINDing did a phenomenal job with the sculpt. They enhanced the pose by bringing out the muscle definition and highlighting Minatsu’s body lines. She looks great from the front…
…from the side…
…and from behind.
Unfortunately, Minatsu was so popular that we are out of stock at the time of writing. It is possible that we may get more stock in the future, so it may be worth bookmarking and periodically checking back. If you really love the design, you may be interested in Chiaki Ayase.
Part of an original illustration series called SiStart!, Chiaki gets a similar bikini figure as Minatsu but this time there is no cast-off option. Giving Chiaki a pose leaning forward, it is very clear what Piromizu intends the viewer to focus on.
Consistent with Piromizu’s style, Chiaki has a great expression that is aimed at making your kokoro go dokidoki. Her soft eyes, cheeks full of blush and warm smile will surely make you melt away on a warm summer day.
Chiaki is meant to be the mother in the SiStart! series so she is a bit more reserved compared to Minatsu. She does have more of a nurturing charm and the figure is less focused on bringing out every slight change in her contour. We still get enough definition in her abdomen to make it an attractive bishoujo figure but it has very different energy from Minatsu. Chiaki has more of an ara ara vibe to her so shota boys beware!
Piromizu has many more original characters which have been adapted to PVC. They are mostly adult oriented cast-off figures that range from explicit to I will surely get fired for talking about this. If you are 18 and older, my personal favorite is Kano Ebisugawa (NSFW) and I will end it there!
I am hoping to do these artist spotlight blogs more often in the future so if you have an illustrator you would like to see highlighted, please leave a comment and let me know!
