Artist Spotlight - From Paper to Display: Anmi's Illustrations of Suomi KP/-31 and Avian Romance Brought to Life

Welcome to the Solaris Blog! ヾ( ʚ̴̶̷  .̫ ʚ̴̶̷ )ノ”

Anmi is a Korean illustrator and manga artist from Seoul. Starting her professional career working on Fantasista Doll and Houkago no Pleiades, she has continued to work on a variety of projects including illustration technique books and games like Fate/Grand Order, Arknights and Girls’ Frontline. In addition, Anmi is well known for her doujin activities and her circle Megane Shoujo. Her growing popularity over the years led to her first solo exhibition, SUPERBLOOM, held at the pixiv WAEN GALLERY in Tokyo. While traditionally focusing on general/all ages material, she has challenged herself to draw illustrations of a more adult variety. This led her to produce a cover illustration for the adult manga magazine COMIC Kairakuten BEAST.

Anmi excels at creating impressive illustrations that highlight the feminine qualities of her characters. Her choice of color palette usually revolves around the use of three main colors which she divides to create nice contrast and definition. Pastel colors such as pink and sky blue are some of the most used colors for her designs. Her line work is also a bit unique as she tends to use lighter shades where light hits, creating contrast and giving a sense of transparency.

With the publishing of her own art book in 2020, Anmi commented that she wants to study more female character illustrations and challenge genres that she has never drawn before, such as mecha and male characters. With Anmi’s amazing talent, I think we will be in for a treat! For the meantime, we can enjoy some great figures from her original series Avian Romance along with a couple of Suomi KP/-31 figures from Girls’ Frontline.

Avian Romance - Bringing Art to Life

Avian Romance began as a series of doujinshi illustration books but has evolved into a figure product line. Avian Romance features beautiful and cute female characters with detailed and vibrant designs, capturing a sense of elegance and charm. Anmi's attention to detail is  particularly evident in the intricacy of the characters' clothing, accessories, and hairstyles. Since each book has its own theme for the illustrations, the figures follow the same.

Moe Military Masterpiece

For example, the first issue of Avian Romance had a moe military theme and this figure of American Frigate Bird showcases it perfectly.
There is a great sense of motion throughout the figure to the point where you can almost feel the sea breeze.
The military outfit matches quite well with the pose and Anmi brings some bishoujo goodness with the swimsuit bottom. The addition of the frills to the swimsuit, the raised heel and cute expression are powerful additions that elevate this figure to another level.
It is also a semi-SFW castoff, losing the sailor uniform for a matching bikini top. It too, has also been designed in a way to enhance the moe elements.
From behind, we have a nice behind. Anmi was kind to design this in a way that purposefully gives a good view. I guess she knows what the people want.

Flamingo Ballet Group

Changing to a very different theme, we have a trio of ballet dancers. The group is comprised of Kouhai-chan
…And Pony Tail Girl.
There is a significant amount of detail in the outfits and a lot of thought and effort when into the designs.
The poses are designed to enhance the beauty and elegance for the ballet trio and provide good balance to the aesthetic. Anmi is quite good at crafting visuals that are very alluring while not going over the top. The cute facial expressions and expressive eyes soften the ecchi vibes.
She pulls you and allows you to explore the… areas of your interest.
And as group, they look great together!

Suomi KP/-31: The 'Finnish' Line of Adorable Mayhem in Girls' Frontline!

Girls' Frontline is a popular mobile strategy game developed by MicaTeam. It is set in a dystopian future where human-like androids known as Tactical Dolls (T-Dolls) are utilized in military operations. Anmi was in charge of the character designs for a few of the girls like Suomi KP/-31, Desert Eagle and RFB

The Suomi KP/-31 ('Suomi-konepistooli', or "Finland Machine-pistol") is a Finnish-designed submachine gun used during WWII. It was one of the most successful submachine gun designs at the time and its use by the Finnish military against the Red Army led to Soviet designers crafting their own submachine guns. Anmi designed Suomi with her Finnish origins in mind, featuring the typical Nordic blonde hair with blue eyes. The cloak she wears is also a reference to the Finnish army uniform.

Suomi’s damaged illustration was just too good to not have a figure created! Funny Knights did an excellent job bringing the illustration to life.

They were able to capture Suomi’s embarrassed expression perfectly.

The painting and details for the damaged bits of clothing looks great!

The actual Suomi KP/-31 is also well modeled.

In her rush to hide her tush, she dropped her weapon and the sense of motion was perfectly preserved.

Suomi may not have done the best job of hiding her goodies because from behind…

A small but nice addition is the design of the base. Using the in-game visual of the grid pattern is one of those subtle choices that is much appreciated.

In addition to the damaged version, FREEing produced a figure of her swimsuit version

Being 1/12 scale, this is a nice compact little figure that can fit easily into any collection. We have a similarly designed bathing suit to American Frigate Bird with frills to enhance the cute aspect.

The translucent short sleeve jacket was modeled nicely and the wrinkles provide a good sense of texture.

It is also removable!

This figure also showcases Anmi’s ability to craft nice butts.

If you are a Suomi fan and cant get enough, you may want to check out this figure which is currently available for pre-order
