Butterflies are fluttering everywhere this summer! And guess what: a pair of demon-slaying butterflies will emerge here at our store, too. Today we’re looking at Alter’s renditions of Shinobu Kocho and Kanao Tsuyuri!
The hashira is scheduled to come first, in September 2021, while the tsuguko will be ready for battle in March 2022. Like master, like pupil! These two are stunning on their own and even better as a pair. (◕o◕✿)
Shinobu Kocho
I don’t think “age before beauty” applies here. Shinobu is only a couple years older than her trainee, and her petite frame and outwardly cheerful disposition makes her look even younger.
What differentiates them is solely skill. It takes a lot of strength to distill anger, hatred and contempt into a sweet smile. Only a master of the poison craft would know how to do it!
And only an equally skilled master can understand it; that’s why Alter did an excellent job with this figure. They managed to capture the seething aura that surrounds Shinobu. I get chills when I see such a gentle expression smirking behind a blade engraved with the word “Destruction”! ((((･´_｀･)))
I think it’s the contrast of refinement and raw power: her outwardly kind appearance hides immense cruelty within. The butterfly haori is dyed with pastel colors, and her sword seems ineffective in battle with its dainty looks. The paint job on this figure is matte, which gives her a soft finish. Yet we cannot help but feel unnerved by the tense presence inspired by her delicate pose. (´∀｀；)
She floats on the surface of the water as gracefully as a dragonfly. Ripples form as she takes flight on a swarm of butterflies. One beat of her wings is enough to unleash a storm right here, where demons spawn!
And just as swiftly as she came, she flies, her wing colors flapping away, leaving nothing but destruction behind!

Kanao Tsuyuri
Following in the footsteps of her adopted older sister and master is young Kanao Tsuyuri! The butterfly ornament on her hair and overall demure demeanor are dead giveaways of her affiliation, but this foundling is slowly developing a style of her own. (ஐºั ◡ ºั)
She has been through a lot; having been wounded by abuse in the past, she sealed her heart away to protect it. However, under the care of the Kocho sisters and with the warmth of her newfound friends, she is slowly coming out of her cocoon, and it is fascinating to see her emerge! Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ(≧ω≦๑)
The mastery of the folks at Alter captures the essence of the character and translates it into a tangible form. Kanao’s smile feels lighter, more genuine, and her pose is bolder and more youthful than that of her superior. I’d even go so far as to say there may be a little bit of Kanae in her too, don’t you think?
Don’t be deceived by her girly gait; Kanao is incredibly strong, potentially even stronger than Shinobu. She can leap as far as a grasshopper, and be as deadly with her strikes as a praying mantis. All while looking like a delicate butterfly! εїз
Her white cloak trails behind her as she springs forward and into the fray in a swirl of pink waves. The cloak can also be removed to reveal the uniform underneath, displaying the one and only thing Demon Slayer Corps do to demons: mercilessly destroy them.
Like her hashira, Kanao has many figures, many of them also being released later this year. Each one captures a different side of her: be it leaping into action, watching the many butterflies of her estate or chilling in the palm of your hand, the tsuguko smiles on, contemplating her next step.
If you’re not sure which one to get, do what Kanao does and toss a coin! But here is my suggestion to avoid the heartbreak of choosing one over the other: just change the outcomes a little bit. Heads is “yes” and tails is also “yes.” (◔ᴥ◔)
