Some figure releases need a lot of explanation. This may be one of them. Not because the design is hard to understand. Actually, that part is pretty immediate: cute girl, little devil horns, sharp playful expression and cool attitude. The real question is probably who is Nira-chan.
For many overseas anime fans, Zutto Mayonaka de Iinoni., better known as ZUTOMAYO, may not be instantly familiar by name. But there is a good chance you have heard them without realizing it. They performed “Time Left” / “Zanki” as the second ending theme for Chainsaw Man, “TAIDADA” as the ending theme for DAN DA DAN, and “Binetsuma” / “Warmthaholic” as the opening theme for Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2 among others.
ZUTOMAYO has quietly been sneaking into anime playlists attached to some very different shows, which is honestly a pretty good match for how slippery and genre-bending their music can be. ZUTOMAYO is not quite a normal band, either. The project is led by ACAね, who handles lyrics, composition, and vocals, while the members themselves do not have a fixed form and the band tends to use unusual instrument setups. That sounds like a joke until you actually watch a live performance or music video and realize, no, that is pretty much the correct description.
ZUTOMAYO is a band with a whole ecosystem orbiting around it. The music videos are full of recurring motifs, odd little mascots, strange machines, emotionally messy girls and surreal story fragments. The live performances follow suite with intricate, custom designed sets that follow all sorts of seemingly random themes with ACAね keeping herself just as mysterious in the center.
And that brings us to Nira-chan.
Nira-chan is not a traditional anime character with a long TV series behind her. She is one of ZUTOMAYO’s music video characters, a visual mascot-like presence tied to the band’s animated world. Good Smile previously introduced her to the Nendoroid line complete with accessories including Uniguri-kun and a ZTMY hat.
This new figure, however, is not just standard Nira-chan. This is Devil Nira-chan, from the “Time Left” Chainsaw Man MV.
“Time Left” already has extra visibility because of Chainsaw Man, but the ZUTOMAYO MV has its own identity separate from the anime ending. It is fast, stylish and chaotic with the kind of visual edge that makes Nira-chan’s devil design feel like more than a simple costume swap. It is Nira-chan filtered through the song’s frantic energy. Turning Nira-chan into a little devil with a weapon and a mischievous stare feels very appropriate.
The figure itself keeps things nice and focused. Being somewhat anime adjacent, a full fledged scale would probably be too much. An affordable PUP figure is the right move to allow figure collectors to add some musical magic to their collection.
The small horns combined with the clean outfit and sword give the figure a sharper, more graphic look. If you have seen ZUTOMAYO performed live, the design looks like something ACAね would wear on stage. Those boots may be modeled after a costume she wore.
The pose has a nice balance of stillness and attitude. She is not leaping through the air or drowning in effects, but she does not look passive either. The slight turn, the weapon held across the body and the devilish expression all give her that perfect energy.
The face is probably the most important part. Too cute and the weirdness disappears. Too blank and she loses personality. This version gives her the mischievous mood that makes her feel like she wandered out of an animated music video rather than a standard schoolgirl series. The devil horns help, but the real charm is in how calmly she carries the whole look.
Nira-chan may not have the conventional backstory of a shonen heroine or RPG party member, but she has something arguably just as valuable for collectors. A design with a specific mood and a fandom that recognizes it instantly.
