Overlord starts with a pretty familiar isekai setup and then takes it somewhere much darker. When the servers for the MMORPG YGGDRASIL are scheduled to shut down, veteran player Momonga stays logged in until the final moment. Instead of being disconnected, he finds himself trapped inside the body of his undead character, with the Great Tomb of Nazarick and its NPC inhabitants suddenly very real.

Taking the name Ainz Ooal Gown, he begins exploring this new world while trying to understand what happened and whether any other players were transported with him. The problem is that Ainz is an absurdly powerful undead ruler surrounded by equally terrifying servants who already assume their master has a flawless plan for world domination. He doesn't.

That disconnect between the nervous salaryman still buried somewhere inside Ainz and the terrifying Overlord everyone else sees is a big part of the series’ charm. It also leads directly to one of his most useful alter egos: Momon, the Dark Hero.

Rather than wander around as an obviously undead king, Ainz creates the identity of Momon and registers as an adventurer alongside Narberal Gamma. Wrapped in heavy black armor and carrying two enormous swords, Momon quickly builds a reputation as one of the strongest adventurers in the Kingdom. To ordinary people, he is basically the perfect fantasy hero: powerful, mysterious and always arriving when something horrible needs killing.

Momon also serves an important purpose beyond giving Ainz an excuse to play adventurer. His heroic reputation gives him influence among humans who would probably be considerably less enthusiastic about taking advice from an undead sorcerer king. The character becomes one of the clearest examples of Ainz controlling both sides of his public image.

Good Smile’s latest figure brings that heroic persona back with the POP UP PARADE SP Momon from Overlord: The Holy Kingdom. While the release carries the movie branding, this is the familiar Dark Hero design fans have known since the early parts of the series. And this is exactly the kind of character where the SP format makes sense.

A standard PUP would probably struggle to do Momon justice. His appeal comes from size, armor and those ridiculous swords, so shrinking everything down too much would take away most of what makes the design intimidating.

The pose is easily the strongest part. Momon has one boot planted on a broken rock while leaning forward, with one sword resting across his shoulder and the other held vertically beside him. It gives the figure a heavy, confident stance without turning the display into an awkwardly wide action pose. He looks like he has just finished destroying something rather than carefully posing for the camera.

Those swords add a huge amount of presence. Both include plenty of rough surface texture and engraved detail along the blades. The armor has also been handled nicely. Rather than using a smooth black finish, the surfaces have a rough, hammered texture that makes the plates look heavy and worn. Gold edging separates the individual sections and gives the dark armor enough contrast to remain readable, especially around the shoulders, waist and thighs. Small scuffs and uneven coloring stop it from looking like freshly molded plastic.

That texture is important for a figure like this. There is no face, skin shading or flowing hair to distract from weak materials. If the armor looked cheap, the entire figure would fall apart. Thankfully, there is enough variation in the metal that individual plates catch the light differently and feel more substantial than the usual flat PUP finish.

The red cape does most of the remaining visual work. It is heavily torn around the edges and sweeps behind Momon instead of simply hanging straight down. The sculpted fabric texture is surprisingly aggressive, with plenty of folds and frayed sections that make it look more like something worn through actual combat than a decorative superhero cape. The deep red also gives the figure some desperately needed color against all that black and steel.

 Gold cuffs and knee details add another material contrast, while the narrow helmet keeps his face completely hidden and preserves that intimidating Dark Hero silhouette.
The rocky support under his raised foot is simple, but it works. Momon already has two enormous weapons, a flowing cape and heavily textured armor. The rock gives the pose some elevation and sells the battlefield feeling without stealing attention from the figure itself.

We have no shortage of Albedo figures. Shalltear gets plenty of attention too, and Ainz himself has already received his own POP UP PARADE SP. But Momon represents a completely different visual side of the series. Put him beside the existing Ainz SP and you effectively get both versions of the same character: the terrifying ruler of Nazarick and the heroic adventurer beloved by the people outside it.
