Back in 2024, Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World was just returning from one of those long anime gaps that made fans wonder if Subaru himself was stuck looping through the production schedule. Now, Season 4 is airing, the story has entered one of its most anticipated arcs, and one very strange, very eye-catching girl has finally stepped into the anime spotlight. Yes, Shaula is here.
For anyone new to the series, Re:Zero is one of the biggest names in modern isekai, but it has never been just another transported-to-another-world fantasy. The story begins with Subaru Natsuki, suddenly summoned to a fantasy world with no explanation, no grand heroic stats, and no easy way home. What he does have is one terrifying ability: when he dies, time rewinds and he gets another chance. That sounds useful until you remember the part where he still has to experience the dying.
That basic hook is what made Re:Zero stand out from the start. Subaru is not an overpowered wish fulfillment hero casually collecting victories. He is loud, stubborn, frequently overwhelmed and often forced to crawl his way through impossible situations by learning from failure in the most painful way possible. Re:Zero is a fantasy adventure filtered through desperation, trauma, mystery and emotional survival.
Of course, the series is not all suffering. Part of the reason Re:Zero has stayed so popular is its huge cast of memorable characters. What started with a great core of Emilia, Rem, Pink Haired Rem and Beatrice has expanded to an ensemble cast that keeps expanding, and each new arc tends to add someone fans either immediately love, fear, or both. With Season 4 now underway, anime fans are finally meeting Shaula.
She is the Star Keeper of the Pleiades Watchtower, said to be located in the deepest part of the unexplored Auguria Sand Dunes. History remembers Shaula the Sage as one of the Three Heroes who saved the world, but the truth of who this girl really is, is naturally not something Re:Zero is going to hand over that easily.
The figure collector version is much simpler: Shaula has one of those designs that was basically made to be a bishoujo figure.
She is bold in a way that immediately separates her from much of the core Re:Zero cast. The black bikini top, hot pants, tattered black and orange cloak give her a silhouette that looks equal parts heroic and sultry. She has that dangerous desert guardian energy, but she also looks playful enough to make you wonder whether the real threat is the tail, the smile, or whatever she is about to say next.
That balance is exactly what Design COCO’s new 1/7 scale figure tries to capture. The first thing that stands out is the pose.
Rather than going for an action stance, Design COCO gives Shaula a pose that feels more like a character introduction. She is turned slightly, cloak catching the wind, finger near her lips, smiling like she knows far more than she is willing to explain. That is a smart choice because Shaula’s appeal is not just cool girl. It is the mix of innocence, confidence, weirdness and danger. A more aggressive pose might have looked impressive, but this one feels more like her.
Her hair which she tries to mimic a scorpion's tail is finely sculpted and the wind blown cloak creates the feeling of a scene cut directly from the story. That sculpt matters because it gives the figure much of its visual identity. Without it, Shaula would still have a strong design, but it may have lost some of the fantasy feeling. It gives the figure movement and a little bit of threat curling around all the cute.
The outfit is perfect for a bishoujo design. Shaula’s familiar black bikini and hot pants look could have easily become the only thing the figure cared about, but the better detail here is how the silhouette is handled. The cape adds volume around the shoulders and back, while the exposed midriff and long legs keep the figure feeling light. There is enough skin to make the design feel daring, but enough character detail to keep it from becoming generic fanservice. That is an important line for Shaula, because the outfit is part of her impact, but the attitude is what sells it.
The soft smile and fake cute gesture are key parts of her charm, emphasizing the blend of innocence and slightly dangerous atmosphere. It is the right way to frame her. Shaula looks cute, but not harmless. Playful, but not simple. There is a strange tension in her design that fits Re:Zero perfectly.
A lot of Re:Zero figures are built around familiar emotional lanes. Emilia figures often lean elegant and pure. Rem figures can be sweet, bridal, oni, maid, sleepy, seasonal, or basically every other figure category known to man. Echidna figures usually go for mystery, tea time and witchy smugness. Shaula brings something different to the shelf. She is wilder. Stranger. More desert myth than mansion heroine.
It is also nice to see another Re:Zero girl getting attention so quickly when the usual heavy hitters, Rem and Ram have a never ending stream of designs. Shaula is a great character to add to a Re:Zero display. She may be new, but she complements the others well and uses the same color palette as our boy, Subaru{・ω-*}
So, is this Shaula figure for everyone? Probably not in the same way a classic Rem or Emilia release is. Shaula is weirder, bolder, and much more specific. But that is exactly the appeal. This is not trying to be the centerpiece. She is the figure that catches your eye from across the room and makes you ask why there is a desert girl smiling like she knows how the next loop ends. The street themed base makes me hopeful we will be getting a set from Design Coco but we will have to wait and see.
