Today we're looking at this elegant 1/7 scale figure of Kamisato Ayaka from the popular game Genshin Impact! China-based Game developer miHoYo has been slowly but surely bringing our favorite characters to this world. All figures released so far bring a little bit of Teyvat's bright and idyllic scenes to this dimension, and today's figure is no exception! In fact, it also brings memories of a beautiful evening we got to spend with an important Inazuman princess…

A brief summary of Teyvat

But first, a quick summary for those who have yet to join our travels across this beautiful and mysterious world (ᗒvᗕ):

In this game, you follow a certain Traveler in their quest to be reunited with their twin.

They travel the world with Paimon, a chatty companion that the river gave them one fateful day.

Together, they explore the land and become acquainted with many of its denizens.

Ranging from the common to the most unusual, they meet and help people, be it enjoying the quaint freedom of daily life or walking a thorny path of duty. ( ˘ω˘ ) ☕ Some of them have powers, some are despised pariahs, some are mighty gods. Anyone and everyone reaches out to become friends with the strange Traveler from another world!

The Camellia in the Winter Snow

One particularly esteemed friendship is that of Kamisato Ayaka, the Shirasagi Himegimi of Inazuma.

Upon setting foot on the secluded island of Inazuma, misfortune after misfortune welcomed the Traveler. ε-(´・｀) ﾌ The archon that watches over these lands is not as friendly as the others, and even sees the existence of the Traveler as a threat.

Yet, among the initial hostility, the Traveler still found an ally in a high place: Kamisato Ayaka, the Shirasagi Himegimi. 

Thus called due to her beauty, earnest heart, diligent and compassionate nature, the daughter of the Kamisato clan is hailed as the prime example of Inazuman virtue. She is adored by the people and respected by her peers. She is as competent as she is kind and fair, skillfully handling the affairs of the Yashiro Commission alongside her brother, Kamisato Ayato.

But inside this paragon of nobility beats the heart of a gentle girl who also enjoys the simplicity of tea and good company. Though raised in opulence, she enjoys things just like any other Inazuman: summer festivals, pretty fox masks, beautiful kimono prints and delicious food. (✽≧ᴗ≦)🍨

Where the Shirasagi Dances

Shanghai-based figure maker Apex Innovation did not disappoint when bringing us this scale figure! Well, to begin with, Genshin Impact’s 3D anime graphics translate quite well into figures. But Apex Innovation doesn’t slack: if it’s in this world, it’s gotta feel real!

And oh my, I could almost go without pulling for Ayaka in-game if I had this figure. Come to think of it, the figure is probably cheaper than trying to get her through pity on her banner. (◔_◔) But unlike the game’s gacha mechanics, figure pre-orders are a 100% drop! You just have to wait until the release date, which for Ayaka is September 2024. It’s about as long as we’re expected to see her banner again anyway.

I personally love seeing the little details, such as seams, buttons and fabric texture, pop out of the figure. Those are things we can only imagine when looking at the models in-game, but with a figure, it’s all palpable, it’s real!

Her Cryo Vision sits prettily on her bow, a token of the favor bestowed upon her by the gods. Her ambition and purity of heart earned her their gaze. As for mine, she’s always had it.

The scene portrayed in this figure happens during Ayaka’s story quest. Genshin Impact has a thing for really making you fall in love with their characters with those story / hangout quests. But the one for the Shirasagi Himegimi was just… mwah, perfection.  ❤️٩(˘ε˘˶ )  Without giving too many spoilers, after you help Ayaka solve a mystery, you spend the evening at a local summer festival. There, in a quiet grove, she performs a dance for you.

And I must say…Apex’s version of that moment is SO much better because of one detail...

No wet socks. ( ಠ ⌣ ಠ )

I know, it’s minor, but for those who know, it’s important. It’s a retcon to a memory that I support 100% and I’m sure I’m not alone in it. Besides, the water effect on the base of this figure is so clear and polished! It’s better executed that way.

With that one nitpick out of the way, I can better appreciate the rest of the dance, I mean, the figure. (ᴖ◡ᴖ)♪

Ayaka’s ribbon flares out as she twirls, displaying the crest of the Kamisato family: a tsubaki, or camellia. This flower blooms in the winter, a beautifully resilient burst of color amidst the snow. The perfect crest to represent Ayaka! Or is Ayaka the epitome of the virtues of the Kamisato clan? (ತ.ತ)
