Pre-Order Hatsune Miku Now!
Welcome to the Solaris Blog! ヾ( ʚ̴̶̷ .̫ ʚ̴̶̷ )ノ”
Hatsune Miku has worn countless outfits over the years. Some are cute, others cool or elegant. Every once in a while, a design comes along with a message. The Smile × Future Ver. is one of those designs. Born from a special illustration contest and brought to life, this figure isn’t just another Miku release. It’s a tribute to the creativity of fans, the optimism of the Vocaloid community and the charm of the world’s most beloved virtual idol, now and into the future.
The Smile × Future design comes from a special collaboration project where artists were invited to create an illustration representing the prompt. Smile × Future. That was what artists were given as a theme to run with.
These contests are a long‑running tradition in the Miku community, with open calls where fans submit their original designs and the winner getting a figure creation. While this does generate a lot of seemingly random designs as seen by the many strange prize figures, it’s one of the most unique aspects of the Vocaloid ecosystem. The line between fan and creator is intentionally thin. Hatsune Miku has always been about the fans, the creators and the community is strong because of it.
This particular contest ran across 12 themed rounds with specific characters in mind. The Smile × Future theme was the very first, making this Miku the debut entry of the entire project. A few designs were chosen as runner ups and are included in some art books and other Miku projects.
The winning design for this figure was illustrated by Okada, and titled “Figure Repair Technician.” A charming title, though part of me hopes it isn’t prophetic. Please, Good Smile… don’t let this be foreshadowing.
The design features Miku in a kimono adorned with restoration tools on her apron. The whole design was faithfully recreated to a level that may not have been necessary but always appreciated.
This version of Miku embodies the contest’s theme beautifully. The costume blends futuristic elements with charm. Miku is bright but also has an air of tranquility. It's probably important for her to be calm and have steady hands if she is going to attempt some figure touch ups.
Good Smile Company’s sculpting team has done an impressive job capturing the fluidity and detail of the original art. The sense of movement is gentle and emphasizes the serene visual.
Miku’s iconic twin‑tails arc outward in long, graceful curves, giving the figure a wide, airy silhouette. The sculpting of the hair has thin, layered strands, intertwined with musical notes as an homage to her musical roots.
Her outfit is grounded in reality with a little futuristic kick. Translucent glasses, ribbon‑like accents and soft geometric shapes combine together very well. The folds and layers are sculpted with precision, giving the costume a sense of depth and realism.
The color palette is full of soft pastels, gentle gradients and small highlights. Parts of her outfit have a delicate pearlescent sheen that adds dimension without overpowering the design.
Her face is one of the strongest points which for me makes the glasses a negative aspect. The himecut frames her face perfectly and the glasses obstruct more than they add.
The base is clean and designed to complement rather than distract. It has a slight futuristic motif that ties into the theme without being overly busy. The overall presentation feels light, uplifting, and elegant, exactly what makes a great Miku figure.
The Hatsune Miku Smile × Future figure is currently available for pre-order with a summer 2027 release planned. Before you decide to pull the trigger, here are the grand prize winners for the other categories which should be getting their figure pre-orders open in the near future.
