A Game from a Manga about Games

Did you know that the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game was created based on a game in a manga? The manga's story follows the young boy Yugi Mutou, who loves playing games of all kinds. He becomes host to an alter-ego, which helps him solve all his conflicts through the medium of shadow games. The original manga was so popular that it spawned several spin-offs, two anime series, and even four animated movies.

Many of the spin-off anime and movies focus on the fictional card game, Duel Monsters (originally called Magic and Wizards). In Duel Monsters, players battle one another using cards to summon fantasy monsters. This fictional card game became the basis for the Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game we know today!

What is The Rarest Yu-Gi-Oh! Card?

Blue eyes white dragon is a card so famous that the original Yu-Gi-Oh trading card booster pack was named after it! It is one of the game's most rare- and best- cards. In 2020, a blue eyes white dragon card sold for 2500 dollars. You can also get this card in the booster pack, but only if you get super lucky.

How to Play the Trading Card Game

On each player's turn, they draw a card and can play a card onto the "field". The goal is to defeat your opponents monsters and make them lose all their life points.

The Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game has three card types:

  • Monster Cards, which summon monsters you can use to battle.

  • Spell cards, which you can use to cast spells to support your monsters in battle.

  • Trap cards, you can use to surprise your opponent's monsters with a trap.

The "field" where you lay out your cards is separated into zones:

  • The graveyard, where your used cards are sent

  • The deck zone, where you keep your main deck

  • The main monster zones, where you summon your monsters to battle

  • The extra deck zone, where you place your extra deck

  • The spell and trap zone... you guessed it, where you place spells and traps!

  • The extra monster zones for special summons that meet certain requirements
