There are some characters who never really leave the spotlight, no matter how many years pass or how many new figures enter the scene. Tokisaki Kurumi is one of them.
Now, FuRyu’s high-end F:NEX line is giving fans yet another reason to clear shelf space with their Witch Style 1/7 scale figure. It is an excellent new take on one of anime’s most instantly recognizable femme fatales.
This version is based on an original FuRyu design rather than a straight anime costume reproduction, dressing Kurumi in a witch-inspired outfit complete with a deep crimson hat, glossy black costume, translucent sleeves, rose details, and of course, her signature firearm at the ready.
For longtime Date A Live fans, Kurumi hardly needs an introduction, but part of her enduring appeal is how effortlessly she balances elegance, danger and theatricality. In Date A Live, her codename is Nightmare since she is an especially dangerous Spirit with powerful time-manipulating abilities. That combination of beauty, menace and mystery is a huge part of why Kurumi continues to inspire so many alternate-costume figures in the first place. She is never just cute or cool in isolation. She is always both, with a layer of unpredictability underneath.
That makes the witch motif an especially smart choice.
Rather than feeling random, the design plays directly into the gothic-romantic image many fans already associate with Kurumi. The oversized red witch hat gives her silhouette immediate presence, while the black costume leans into the sleek, seductive style that suits her so naturally. Both the pose and the outfit are original to FuRyu, and that originality is exactly what gives this piece its charm. It is recognizably Kurumi at a glance, but it still feels like a “what if?” interpretation collectors have not seen a hundred times before. That is no easy feat for a character with over 100 figures already produced.
One of the strongest things about this figure is how it seems to understand that Kurumi works best when there is movement in the design. Static poses can undersell her, unless she is literally posing for a photo op. Here, the gently flowing hair, sheer sleeves, and layered costume details create that sense of motion and atmosphere that her character thrives on. There is a feeling that she has just turned toward you mid-scene, half invitation and half warning. Add in the sculpted roses and the pistol detail and the figure manages to feel ornate without tipping into clutter. FuRyu specifically highlights the hair flow, sleeve transparency, rose accents, and weapon textures as key points of the sculpt, and those are exactly the kinds of details Kurumi collectors tend to zero in on.
It also helps that Kurumi is the kind of character who naturally carries stylized fashion concepts better than most. Date A Live as a series is built around Spirits, supernatural girls whose appearance, powers and emotional presence are central to the identity of the franchise. Kurumi has always stood a little apart even within that setup. While other heroines often embody specific emotional archetypes, Kurumi feels more like an event whenever she appears. She brings tension with her. That makes her ideal for bold figure concepts like this one.
Another fun detail for fans: Kurumi is voiced in the anime by Asami Sanada, whose performance has been a huge part of the character’s long-running popularity and distinctive aura. That elegant, playful, slightly dangerous delivery is so tied to Kurumi’s identity that many collectors already hear her when they look at a figure like this. A good Kurumi figure should feel theatrical, and this one definitely seems to aim in that direction.
From a collector’s point of view, what makes this release stand out is that it is not trying to replace Kurumi in her standard look. Instead, it offers something more stylish and display-driven: a themed rendition that still feels faithful to the character. If you already have a classic Kurumi on your shelf, this Witch Style version looks like the kind of piece that adds variety. And if you are only planning to own one or two versions of her, this one makes a strong case by leaning fully into the qualities that made fans love her in the first place. Mystery, drama, allure and a little danger.
