There is no denying Blue Archive’s popularity. If you go to Akihabara, you will see many advertisements promoting the current banner. For bigger events and updates, these campaigns will be spread throughout Japan. With a PC port being announced for this summer, I have to ask, is it really necessary? Are there still people who would give it a try who haven't already?
Well, Blue Archive is now infiltrating the psyche and permeating otaku mediums. Looking at this original character, I had instantly assumed it wasn't original but instead a new character from Blue Archive. A halo, a gun and sporty outfit fit the bill.
The design was created by illustrator Madden, and looking over their other work you can kind of see where the inspiration has come from. The Blue Archive community has fully embraced their love of smol things and Madden has done illustrations of popular characters like Toki.
On the other side of the aisle sits games like Nikke who celebrates big ole everything. With the release of Bready, the Nikke devs are leaning into an untapped market of guys who are chubby chasers. Madden has also done some illustrations for characters of the series like Emma and seems to have a preference for this body type.
With Madden creating masterpieces from both games, the inspiration for Kana is pretty clear. Taking Blue Archive design elements and applying them to a Nikke body type works incredibly well.
The pose, facial expression and outfit all ooze top tier bishoujo figure imagery. If you like rounder cheeks and Kana’s face isn't enough, the jacket and bag are also removable.
Both options provide enough cheeks to put a smile on your face.
There are a ton of small details shown in the promotional photos. I really hope they are kept and have the same level of detail shown. Small things like her pocket being exposed due to the nature of her tiny shorts, laces, zippers and highlights look incredibly well done. All of the added gym accessories like her headphones, smart watch and dumbbell create a cohesive overall image.
The inclusion of the shotgun and halo add visual interest but don't take the focus away from Kana.
Kana is an all around solid design and makes a great bishoujo figure. The added inspiration elements make it a fun piece for fans of Blue Archive and Nikke.
Kana is currently available for pre-order and should be released early next year. If you love the design, there is a deluxe edition which includes a tapestry of the reference art.
