Graduation ceremonies are a big event in the life of students across Japan. They are often held early to mid-March, with lots of formality and feeling. The valedictorians move the hearts of fellow students to nostalgia as they recall the ups and downs of school life…
And if you managed to control your tears during the speeches, the test of fire comes with the final song. The classic and most popular one is Hotaru no Hikari, sung to the tune of Auld Lang Syne. When the first notes hit, and the meaning of the words you’re singing sink in, there is nothing that can stop the torrent! (۶ꈨຶꎁꈨຶ )۶
The time of the ceremony is opportune as well; right at the end of winter, when life is about to emerge out of their comfortable cocoons into the clear, blue skies outside! The start of the school year is right at the time of the cherry blossoms, marking the beginning of a new stage in the life of the young pupils.
And to mark such an important moment, today we bring you the divine student council president, Kanade Tachibana aka Angel!
This adorable figure is landing at our store next week! It was released to celebrate the studio Key Visual Arts in their 20th anniversary. It is the same studio that brought works such as Kanon, Air, Clannad and, of course, Angel Beats! The design was inspired from a limited edition, commemorative tapestry released by the studio.
In this figure, Kanade bares her true nature as a helper to fellow students. She wears a black gothic lolita outfit, which brings out the sweetest and most melancholic in her! The dress is highly detailed, with matte colors to simulate fabric and frills galore. There is even a gauzy petticoat sticking out the bottom!
She’s kneeling down, wings just about to close as she sits beside you. Her wings don’t enable flight, but they do help her descend slowly all the way from the school roof down to the track, where students were relaxing between classes. And they look pretty good, too.
(￣ω￣) Notice the gentle translucency of the material, as if they were truly made of thin air.
Her hands are delicately posed, wondering whether she should reach out to you and help you overcome the fear of what lies outside the school gates. In that moment of hesitation, her lips are slightly parted as she struggles to break the silence. Until she does, get lost in those amber eyes, where not a trace of hostility can be found (despite the very real danger of fatal wounds (´∀｀；) ).
You can’t help but notice that her hair also catches the light in an almost ethereal manner, like gossamer threads in dark groves. Everything about little Kanade is angelic in a most tender way! She has the innocence of a cherub and the mercy of a guardian angel.
If only she were a little better at communication... Maybe she burned all the words eating mabo tofu. ♨(⋆Д⋆)♨
When words fail, vibes make up for it; sometimes it’s all we need! School life is stressful, especially in the afterlife. The souls she watches over are scarred, and need more than just a sermon to heal and move on. Standing at 180mm, this figure definitely has presence!
When everyone is ready, Kanade will be there to follow them to the end… and the beginning.
