Good Smile Company has just opened the pre-orders for a nendoroid of beloved (and sometimes a little drooly) goddess Amaterasu!
The Japanese sun deity is the main character of a beautiful, severely underrated Capcom game. Released originally in 2006 for PS2, it was more recently ported to Nintendo Switch in 2018. The game is a visual masterpiece, with a (at the time) daring shift away from realistic graphics to the fantastic world of Japanese ink wash paintings, traces of which you can find swirling about her immaculate white fur. ( ͡°з ͡°)
This is not Amaterasu’s first rodeo, however. The game’s story revolves around her second time in this world, to finish what she started a hundred years prior: to kill the eight-headed Orochi, who plagued the land of Nippon. Likewise, the nendo we’ll look at today is not of her first incarnation! For an in-depth look of her first nendo, hop over to this blog post!
Shiranui is the name of her first and most powerful iteration, at the time of her first encounter with Orochi.
You can see the difference between the different incarnations through their markings; in the newest nendo they are intricate and abundant — a sign of her superior ability with the Celestial Brush. (∩｀-´)⊃━~
With her travels her companion, and later evangelist, Ishaku! It was his hand that immortalized her legend, then his temper that pushed his grandson and successor Issun onto the path to meet her once again.
The weapons show Amaterasu’s ancestral eminence as well: the deluxe version comes equipped with the three most powerful artifacts in the game: the Solar Flare Reflector, the Thunder Edge Glaive, and the Tundra Beads Rosary, plus a howling face plate for an epic pose! ٩( θ‿θ )۶

But if you’re more into the classic look, then the standard version and its iconic reflector is all you need.
The sun goddess will descend in this chibified form next summer!
