Pre-Order Rin and Nadeshiko Now!

Welcome to the Solaris Blog! ヾ( ʚ̴̶̷ .̫ ʚ̴̶̷ )ノ”

Get in loser, we’re going camping!Camping’s not your thing? Well, there will be pretty girls, lots of moe and, best of all, cute dogs. 🐶 At least this time.

Today we’re looking at these two 1/7 scale figures of Yurucamp’s Rin Shima and Nadeshiko Kagamihara! (ᴖ◡ᴖ)♪

FuRyu brings Afro’s illustrations to life with these latest announcements in their F:Nex series. Right off the bat you can see they aimed for a touch of realism with the base, something I find fits very well with the theme of the Yurucamp series.

For those who haven’t heard of it, here’s a quick summary:

Yurucamp is a slice-of-life anime that follows a group of high schoolers as they discover the joys of camping. More specifically, fall and winter camping. They tour the Tokai region of Japan, with most of their camping trips centering around getting different views of Mt. Fuji from all the different prefectures in the region. The anime series comes packed with great tips for camping beginners and recipes that you can cook over a campfire. Food and local specialties are a major element of each episode, so it also works as a great way to promote different areas of Japan! 🗻

If you’re planning to visit Japan sometime soon, especially in the fall and winter, I definitely recommend you give the series a watch. Some of the locations shown in the series are accessible by train. Hopefully that will spark your interest in exploring the beautiful Tokai region and the views of Mt. Fuji! As a Tokai resident myself, I invite you all to enjoy what we have to offer! ( •̀ ᄇ• ́)ﻭ✧

Of course, behind every great anime there is a great manga, which is the source of the poses in these scale figures.Though the only dog that we get to see consistently in the anime is Chikuwa, Ena’s little long-coat chihuahua, there is always a dog in the illustration inside the manga. Until volume 10 it seemed like it was the same husky-like dog, supposedly representing the writer/illustrator Afro. (-ω-`。)

But from volume 11 onwards, the characters started getting different breeds of dogs, each one sort of matching their personality! If FuRyu decides to keep the trend going, there may be a figure of Aoi-chan with a Finnish Laphund, Chiaki with French bulldogs, Ena with even more chihuahuas and Nadeshiko’s older sister Sakura with a black Akita. That would definitely be lovely to see, though I must admit it’s unlikely… (figure makers, prove me wrong, please). 人 ´∀`)Rin gets a shiba inu, a quiet and seemingly aloof breed of dog. But anyone who owns a Shiba knows that despite their stand-offish first impression they are loving and loyal friends! Exactly like Rin herself.

Speaking of loyal companions, a prominent feature of this scale figure is Rin’s trusty scooter, the Yamaha Vino. That little 50cc engine carries her up and down the Japanese mountainous countryside, in search of the perfect campsite! In Rin’s nendoroid, the scooter even has a little speech bubble, because it’s often exhausted after these long trips. (。⨱ω⨱)
The amount of detail in this figure is amazing. It brings a certain feeling of realism, especially with the turf in the base. Given that the series is about very real locations in Japan, it makes sense that they would try to make this scale figure less anime-like and more like real life. The more you look at it, the more it feels like you could one day drive past Rin on your way to a quiet secluded campsite… (ृˊ◡˴⁎৲ु॰∘♡
However, if Rin is coming with her friend Nadeshiko, that campsite is about to be anything but quiet.
( ̄︶ ̄ ;)

The dog Afro chose to illustrate alongside the super-friendly, happy-go-lucky, chatty and occasionally loud Nadeshiko is, appropriately, the beagle. In North America we call her personality “golden retriever energy”, but in Japan golden retrievers are considered “big dogs”, and thus are not as popular as smaller breeds. So! Beagle it is.
And for once, Nadeshiko is quiet. There aren’t many scale figures of her that don't have a lot of movement or that don't have her UWWWWAAAAAAA (•́ ∀ •̀๑) face. The only one that comes to mind where she’s actually posing quietly, very mindful, very demure, is this furisode version also by FuRyu: (which we have available brand new at our store!)
If you check other figures of her at our store, you will see they follow a pattern: lots of movement, hair in the wind, big smile. It’s like she has a permanent “I LOVE LIFE” ⊂(( ・▽・))⊃ type of smile. It’s amazing to think that Rin, the quintessential introvert, befriended someone so hyper like Nadeshiko!
She sits on the grass and pets the dog, next to Nadeshiko’s 10-speed bicycle. Even with this mandatory petting stop, Nadeshiko might still be first to the campsite. This girl is very strong and very fit, thanks to years of biking around lake Hamana, in Shizuoka. 🚴
The bicycle is insanely detailed, bringing the same realistic vibe as Rin’s scooter, though maybe not the same presence. While Rin’s scooter is almost a character on its own, I don’t recall seeing this bicycle anywhere else in the series. In fact, most of the time Nadeshiko just rides a simple mamachari. Still, if the message we’re trying to convey with this choice of bicycle is the freedom and the love of the outdoors, it was well-received! Besides, the touch of yellow adds some sunniness to the whole scene. ☀️
These two 1/7 scale figures of Rin and Nadeshiko are both scheduled to release in April 2025. Pre-orders are currently open at our store, so go check it out! We’re advocates for laid-back camping and exploring things at your own pace, but not for missing opportunities. (ღゝ◡╹)ノ

We hope you enjoyed this one!

Until next time! ヾ(^∇^)

Thanks for such a heartfelt summing up of the peaceful yet high energy world of Yuru Camp!
It’s one of the best shows for promoting tourism to Japan, and I visited a few spots during my visit in March. The view inland from Omuro Yama was just like the anime showed it. Plus the shop there had some cool merch…
The new figures look great, I will be adding both to my collection as a larger version of my nendoroid set. I need to look back at season one now to find out if that yellow bike actually features, but I suspect it is a manga only thing. Thanks again for the reminder.
