The gacha gaming industry continues to grow and one thing remains conisistent. 2D waifus. We are now in the middle of a game revitalization with an even heavier focus and top-tier character designs and figure manufacturers are getting in on the action!
Azur Lane launched with a diverse roster and peak character designs. They had every archetype imaginable and there were plenty of ships to love. A few years in however, designs became more safe, and subsequently more forgettable. With over 800 characters in-game, it's impossible for each to be a banger design but there was a noticeable shift in design philosophy.
Kancolle excelled at keeping the same class of ship in similar outfits making them instantly recognizable. Azur Lane went for a more fantasy inspired story and subsequently, I sometimes forget these are supposed to be ships.
After a few years of somewhat less than stellar designs and competitors in the gacha space like brown dust gaining market share, they have gone back to their roots. And maybe taking too many risks. Now, skins are getting pulled from the app store for being too lewd and they don't hold back on ecchi visuals. One skin that certainly hit the mark was from their collaboration with Atelier Ryza.
Her Late-Night Alchemist design invites you in for a pleasant evening. The overall aesthetic of Ryza lifting the blanket, waiting for you to lay down on the futon next to her is a wombo combo.
Ryza’s pajamas are revealing making it quite ecchi. At the same time her gentle expression is more snuggly than lewd giving it a wholesome feeling.
The blanket is optional but it looks strange without it. Without an interchangeable arm to vary the pose, no blanket is just a weird, obviously gooner mode look. At the same time, can you really appreciate the goddess of thicc thighs without seeing them?
They give you feet instead.
The sculpt is all around very well done. The wrinkles on the pillow, blanket and futon all look natural. The details on her body, like her collar bone and muscle definition in her back, have a life-like look to them. The braid in Ryza’s hair is a bit simple but the overall layers to her hair make up for it.
The paintwork and shading looks top notch. Her skin is radiant and glowing but has variations in color appropriate for shadowing. The tiny details on the blanket and accents on her outfit are all clean and vibrant and her pillow has a very real, lived in feel.
This isn't really an Azur Lane figure, it's an excellent Atelier Ryza one. If you are a fan of Ryza, started collecting her and can't get enough or just appreciate a good bishoujo figure, this one is for you.
Reisalin is currently available for pre-order with an expected release in July 2026.
So far we got an AL X Gridman figure and AL X Ryza fig. What Azur Lane collaboration design do you want most next?
