FairyTale-Another - March Hare - 1/8 (Myethos)
Myethos has just announced the release of yet another chapter in its FairyTale-Another series! This time, they’re going back to the cast of a modern fairy tale, Alice in Wonderland, by British author Lewis Caroll. The latest scale figure, expected to be released at the end of November 2023, portrays none other than the raving mad March Hare(U╹×╹) ★

If you haven’t heard of Alice in Wonderland before…
S E R I O U S L Y. ( ಠ _ ಠ )
OK, let me brush my shock aside and assume that
1. Western fairy tales weren’t part of your childhood or
2.You played hooky/fell asleep during English literature classes or
3. Never watched Disney’s adaptation of the novel — after all, we’re all otaku here, and we knew Kimba the White Lion long before the Lion King made kings of the jungle mainstream. (don’t try to guess my age from this!) ( ๑Ò_Ó๑ )

In which case, here are my solutions:
For people who qualify under point 1: Alice in Wonderland is one trip of a novel that was written back in 1865. It is chock-full of punny takes on strange and whimsical English idioms, as well as some bending of logic, stretching of semantics and light-hearted poking of Victorian mores. It was written to amuse a little girl whom the author knew, so it’s kind of like Dr. Seuss, but in the Queen’s English. Just as nonsensical at times. For the linguistically inclined, it’s a feast of nothing but desserts. (っˆڡˆς) Tips on where to read or listen to it below.
For people who qualify under point 2: here’s a link to read it online, a link to download the eBook version and a link to listen to it in audiobook format. You may enjoy the nonsense and the puns! Make your literature teacher proud. (•̀ᴗ•́)و ̑̑
For people who qualify under point 3: seriously, watch it. The animation is so surreal that Disney may have single-handedly inspired the twisting of the children’s novel into darker themes. It was released in the 50s, around the same time as other iconic princess movies, such as Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty. So, if today’s figure seems a little creepy to you, you can thank Disney for that. ( ̄︶ ̄ ;)
Why is it important to know the original work? Well, Alice sort of became a whole aesthetic; while there aren’t any modern anime adaptations of the novel, her iconic blue dress, white apron and striped stockings are quite often used as a shortcut to add innocence and whimsy to a character. Also, it fits the lolita/maid style perfectly in some anime. To date, there aren’t any modern anime adaptations of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, which is so sad…I personally think that a Paprika-style adaptation would be simply stunning! (RIP Satoshi Kon ( __) )
But until that happens, we can feast our eyes on Myethos' scale figures.(✧ᗜ✧) In addition to today’s March Hare, Myethos has previously 3D-ified anime versions of other characters from Alice in Wonderland, such as the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit, the Queen of Hearts, and Alice herself.
Fairy-Tale Another Myethos Alice in Wonderland figures
The Cheshire Cat is currently available brand new at our store! She was released back in 2021, and just as if Myethos decided to follow the original storyline, she led us to today’s figure, the March Hare. ლ(=ↀωↀ=)ლ

Standing tall at an estimated 41 cm (roughly 16 in), this 1/8 scale figure is absolutely stunning from all angles, with an abundance of detail! Usually, Myethos works together with talented illustrators to bring their concepts to life, and they go all out on details, especially for their Fairy Tale-Another series. Every single leaf and critter and bubble is present both in the image and the figure.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find the original artwork for this figure… (╥⌒╥✿) if you ever come across it online, send it this way, because everyone needs to know the original.

We can thank illustrator Axis for this interesting concept of the March Hare. Though in the novel he’s just another character in Wonderland, and part of a trio with the Mad Hatter and the Dormouse, in this 1/8 scale figure there are many elements that make me think he’s sort of a convergence of all three plus Alice herself. (~ _^)d
He sits in a gilded cage decorated with objects that remind us of important events in the novel: keys and keyholes, a pocket watch, playing cards, and white roses.

The watch dangling from the frame tells us that this may actually be brunch, and it has just started. So there’s no room at the table, but they won’t stop little curious girls from taking a seat. They’ll just annoy them until they leave! (๑˃́ꇴ˂̀)

Long fawn ears and big teeth immediately identify him as the raving mad March Hare, the one with straws in his hair. He wears a tan suit with short pants, as was the fashion for boys back then. The teal lining of his coat adds a touch of magic, and the striped bright green stockings are reminiscent of the Mad Hatter.
And from the look on his face and how clumsily he’s holding the teacup, it seems they’ve already served the mimosas.        ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
That grin is giving me strong Tamaki vibes, from Ouran High School Host Club. Yet another idea for an adaptation: the Wonderland Host Bar!

Ah, if only I knew how to draw. (╯▅╰)
Myethos March Hare rabbit plush detail
The languid plush rabbit, who has clearly been force-fed some cake (´~`◦ ;), reminds me of the dormouse, who was tormented by the March Hare and the Mad Hatter.

Since they didn’t want it, the March Hare now offers it to you. The bright green (and maybe slightly noxious) motif continues on his manicure, a small but very interesting detail!

Notice the custom pocket watch attached to his waistcoat! Ticking away the days of the month, dipped in high quality tea and powered by the best butter. ٩(˘ε˘˶ )
