And it was about time figure makers paid their dues, too. Following the unforgivable sin (҂⌣̀_⌣́) by GSC to leave out Chomusuke from Megumin’s standard nendo (which is being re-released in October 2022, so pre-order today! Chomusuke or not), Chara-Ani and Kadokawa teamed up to right the wrongs and revealed this awesome 1/7 scale of Megumin from Konosuba!
But before we pore over the details of this double dose of cuteness, a quick intro:
“Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!,” or Konosuba for short, is an isekai parody series. It follows the same tropes of all isekai: a social outcast gets randomly transported to a parallel universe (which looks a lot like a medieval fantasy MMORPG) for a second chance at being something in life. But in Konosuba, this doesn’t come easy. Kazuma, the NEET protagonist, is far from an ideal hero, and his companions are far — very far — from being the harem of his dreams. They’re a hot bunch alright, but the personality of each one makes them something you wouldn’t wish even upon the Demon King. (￣︶￣ ;)
Out of these…peculiar…teammates, Megumin is actually the least unhinged in my eyes. And at times, she’s also the best ever. (´ ⌣`ʃƪ)♥
Megumin is an Arch Wizard of the Crimson Magic Clan. Like everyone in her clan, she talks big and acts extra. But this lovely chuunibyou actually has got the stuff to back up her grandiose attitude: she’s extremely intelligent and powerful. However, she’s also just as passionate about one type of magic, and dedicates body, mind, and soul to it. That magic is…
EXPLOOOOOOOSION! (∩｀-´ )⊃━☆ﾟ.*･ ｡ﾟ 💥
She is fond of summoning the sheer destructive power of combustive chaos until every inch of her body is paralyzed with exhaustion. At the end of a raid, she’s as useless as a sack of potatoes, meaning Kazuma needs to haul her back to headquarters every single time. (｡⨱ω⨱)
Those two are the most shippable couple in the series in my opinion, and *almost* canon: in the movie Legend of Crimson, Kazumin shippers got some treats! (´♡ᴗ♡`)
A powerful witch is nothing without a companion. Megumin has Chomusuke! (＾ ● ⋏ ● ＾)
Chomusuke, formerly known as Wolbach, used to be the powerful goddess of Sloth and Violence. After being defeated, she was split into two:
Wolbach, the stunning aspect of Sloth…
and a derpy black cat, the aspect of Violence. She was later taken in by Megumin’s sister, Komekko, and renamed to Chomusuke. Just so you know, the Crimson Demons are not very good at naming things. Don’t ever baptize anything important (such as a sword) when there is one around. ( ˊ͈ ᐞ ˋ͈)
Wolbach reabsorbed most of the violence in Chomusuke, so tail-flicking and the occasional hiss is all the violence she can do now. The poor creature has even been reduced to ammunition in a war between the women’s bath and the mixed bath in a hot spring episode. (´Д｀;)
Then Chara-Ani and Kadokawa teamed up to imagine what would happen if Megumin absorbed what was left of Chomusuke. Since there’s only cuteness and a little bit of attitude left, this is the result! An exclusive design with a warm and fuzzy Chomusuke hoodie over Megumin’s pink-striped baby doll. ( ๑ ᴖUᴖ)
I really want that hoodie, by the way. (❀◕3◕) Anime clothing brands, please get the rights to this design, because I need it yesterday!
Her hoodie is the full Chomusuke aesthetic, with wings, tail, and little angry face baring teeth. (´w｀*) Just like the real one, sitting by Megumin’s feet, looking on with amusement.
Also, look at that base! It’s pure void cat love. (๑′ᴗ‵๑) A mischievous grin against the jet black hints at a sort of malevolent aura hidden within. Something that, unless you’re a certain deadbeat water goddess, you can’t detect right away. I mean, look at how Chomusuke is sitting down, OMG.(@˟ꈊ˟@) There is violence here, but it’s coming from me, who desperately wants to squish that cat. (ﾐᓀᆽᓂﾐ>ԅ
If nyanyan ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ is not your thing, the hoodie can also be replaced with a more classic Megumin pose.
So it’s almost like you get two figures in one, since they differ so much in mood: angry kitten or bright-eyed Crimson Demon. Whichever looks good on the display that day!
